Labor doulas are amazing birth professionals who provide informational, physical, and emotional support throughout pregnancy, birth, and the immediate postpartum period. Scientific studies also show that doulas are improving birth outcomes. A 2017 Cochrane study showed that the presence of a doula can reduce the risk of a cesarean birth by 39%, shorten labor by an average of 41 minutes, and decrease the risk of a dissatisfied birth experience by 31%.
What does on-call birth support look like?
Here at Ohio Valley Doula Services LLC, I provide on-call birth support. This means that I am ready and able to support you whenever you go into labor. My clients call the shots when it comes to where and when they want me. I am here to support YOUR VISION. Want to labor at home? I will be there. Want to go to the hospital? I will be there too. With one phone call, I will jump into action as your labor doula.
Do you perform any physical examinations?
No. Doulas are not medical practitioners. We do not provide any diagnoses, medical interventions, or physical examinations. Our support includes information, physical comfort measures, and emotional support.
Why should I hire a postpartum doula?
The postpartum period is a time of IMMENSE change. After birth, your body will be trying to go back to its pre-pregnant state which includes a lot of physical and hormonal changes. On top of that, you will have a new life to care for. Hiring a postpartum doula can help lessen the burden on you and your partner. I provide both overnight and daytime care depending on your needs. These shifts can include help with feeding, basic childcare, sibling care, household tasks, meal prep, mental health screening, and maternal healing support. I have had clients refer to me as their "Postpartum Fairy Godmother".

As a seasoned professional nanny, I want to help families cover their childcare needs during periods of uncertainty. In an ideal world, no family should be without quality childcare.
